Story Behind the Photograph – Okavango Fish Eagle

I created this okavango fish eagle image late in the afternoon, when the light had turned soft and golden. We were moving slowly along a channel when I noticed the eagle perched on the broken top of a dead tree. It was already a striking sight, but the real magic began when the bird started to shuffle and shake its feathers, using its wings and tail to keep balance on the narrow stump.

We positioned the boat carefully and cut the engine, letting the current carry us just enough. The sun sat low behind us, washing the eagle in warm light while the sky remained a deep, even blue. I waited for the moment when the bird leaned forward into a full shake, wings slightly open, body curved over the perch.
