I met the subject of this bateleur eagle photo on a quiet Kalahari morning. A male Bateleur was standing on the sandy road, drinking from a small puddle left after recent rain. Since he looked completely relaxed, I stopped the car at a respectful distance and moved very slowly. Then I slipped out, lay down on the ground and pressed myself as low as possible to reach an eye‑level perspective with this Kalahari bateleur photo.

The eagle accepted my presence and stayed where he was. From time to time he shook his feathers, sending soft ripples through his plumage. At that moment the light was gentle, the air was still and the scene felt almost private.
