In Makgadikgadi Pans, meerkats move with purpose as they search for food, but there are always brief pauses when curiosity wins. On this morning, the family was spreading out across the grass in front of me. I stayed low and still, letting them grow used to my presence.

This young suricate had already walked past when it suddenly turned its head, looking back over its shoulder. For a few seconds it held that “hello you” gaze, ears forward and eyes bright. The mix of surprise, caution and interest on its small face is exactly what I wanted to hold in this Hello You Meerkat print.
