Keeper of the Albida Forest — Elephant Bull in Mana Pools

One of the great bulls of Mana Pools walks straight through the albida forest, tusks gleaming, dust soft around his feet—guardian of the dry‑season groves where elephants feast on protein‑rich acacia pods.

Description

Story Behind The Photograph

Captured in the iconic albida forests of Mana Pools, Zimbabwe, Keeper of the Albida Forest portrays one of the region’s great elephant bulls walking purposefully toward the viewer. Long tusks frame his trunk, ears spread against a backdrop of soft‑focused trees and dust. In the dry season, elephants like this bull rely on the nutrient‑rich pods of the Faidherbia albida—food that sustains them when almost everything else has turned to dust. The monochrome palette emphasises the textures of skin, tusk, and forest, turning this stride into a quiet, dignified procession through the grove he depends on and, in many ways, protects.
