Painted dogs, or african wild dogs, are wide‑ranging predators. Their packs travel far as they hunt, and seeing the whole painted wolf pack strung out beneath the trees is a rare and powerful sight. On this day I watched the painted dog pack hunting in blue forest as they trotted steadily across the open ground, noses low and tails raised.

I chose to step back and use a wider view. Instead of a close painted dog portrait, I wanted to show how small even a big african wild dog pack looks inside this huge “blue forest”. The cool tones between the trunks and the warm floodplain beneath create a natural frame around the hunting painted dogs.
