In Makgadikgadi Pans, meerkats are constantly aware of their surroundings, often popping up from burrows or behind small rises to scan for danger or opportunity. On this morning, I was lying quietly near a burrow system, waiting for the family to emerge.

This young suricate slowly appeared, its head rising above the sandy edge. It paused, then looked intently to the left, its expression a mix of caution and undeniable curiosity. For a few seconds, it seemed to be weighing up something unseen, its small face full of character. That direct, engaging look, framed by the simple background, is what I wanted to hold in this peekaboo meerkat print.
