Story Behind The Photograph – Light‑Hearted Sparring

In Mana Pools we had already watched the pack wake and greet each other. After the first rush of contact, the energy often turns into play. On this evening two dogs broke away from the others and started to spar on the open road.

They circled, bumped shoulders and snapped at each other’s faces, but every movement spoke of trust rather than aggression. I stayed low to the ground and followed their dance through the viewfinder. When one dog lifted its front leg and the other pushed in under its chin, the pose became both funny and elegant, so I pressed the shutter. This was the frame that best held the joy of that short game.

Dust, Movement And Warm Light

What stands out in Wild Dogs Playing is the mix of movement and atmosphere. The dust thrown up by their paws wraps the pair in a soft veil, catching the warm light and echoing the colours of their coats. At the same time, the dogs themselves remain sharp and clear, so you can read every detail of their markings and body language.

The simple background, blurred into gentle shades of orange, keeps the scene from feeling busy. Instead, your eye stays on the curve of their bodies and the lines of their legs, ears and tails. The low angle adds to the feeling of being on the road with them, sharing the laughter of the moment.
