I found this couple lying quietly near the road in the Central Kalahari. It was clear they were a mating pair, as the male was completely infatuated with the lioness, never letting her out of his sight. After a long rest, she finally got up and stretched, and he followed her immediately, staying right by her side as they began to walk through the short grass.
There is a specific energy when you are close to lions that are mating. The male is usually very protective and focused, yet in this moment, there was a visible softness in how he moved with her. This is real wildlife photography—no staging, just the raw and beautiful reality of life in the Botswana wilderness.
