Story Behind The Photograph – Young Cheetah On A Dirt Track

This young cheetah on a dirt track is part of the same unforgettable Kalahari birthday morning. After watching the mother and her two youngsters in the long grass, we followed them as they moved across the plains. For a brief moment, the young cheetah stepped onto a sandy track, pausing in the open.

The light was soft and low, and the land felt endless. Muddy puddles from earlier rain marked the road, while fresh green grass lined both sides. In that still second he stood straight and calm, perfectly centred between the tracks, as if he owned the path and the whole Kalahari behind it.

In this frame the young cheetah on a dirt track becomes a small, elegant figure within a wide landscape. The open space around him, the soft grasses and the pale sky create a feeling of freedom and distance.
