Wilderness & River Magic
Wilderness & River Magic is a carefully paced Victoria Falls – Hwange – Chobe photo safari for photographers who want time to breathe, learn and create.
A unique photo safari in Zimbabwe and Botswana
We begin with two nights at Victoria Falls, where you can reset after the journey, fine‑tune your camera settings and explore creative techniques with water, mist and rainforest light. From there we fly into Hwange for five unhurried nights with professional guide and photographer Adam Jones, walking and driving in one of Zimbabwe’s wildest, most soulful landscapes. We end on the Chobe River, first on the Pangolin Voyager houseboat and then at Pangolin Chobe Hotel, where water‑level photography and big skies bring the journey full circle.
This is not a rush from sighting to sighting. It is a small‑group workshop in the field, with space to experiment, ask questions and stay with special moments as long as they last.

Who this photo safari is for
This safari is designed for wildlife photographers who:
- Want time to truly learn and practise in the field, not just “tick off” sightings
- Appreciate a mix of classic big‑game photography and more creative work with water, mist and dust
- Prefer small groups, shared knowledge and honest feedback over crowded vehicles and rushed days
- Are happy to travel light, stay in comfortable but authentic bush camps and spend long hours in nature
You do not need to be a professional. Enthusiastic beginners who are willing to learn and experienced photographers looking to deepen their vision are both very welcome.
Three unforgettable photographic environments
We start in Victoria Falls
Long‑haul travel can leave you tired and scattered. Beginning in Victoria Falls gives you two gentle days to reset, settle into Africa and ease into your photography before we head deep into the bush.
We spend unhurried time photographing the Falls from different viewpoints and in changing light. This is an ideal classroom for mastering exposure, working with filters, slowing your shutter and protecting your gear in misty conditions. By the time we fly into Hwange, you know your equipment, I know your current level, and we can dive straight into the wildlife work with confidence.
Hwange National Park
Hwange is one of Zimbabwe’s great wilderness areas. In October it is dry, the waterholes are busy and the light can be dramatic. We spend five nights at Inzila Camp with professional guide and photographer Adam Jones.
Our days follow a natural, photography‑friendly rhythm. We are out early and late when the light is soft, exploring Hwange’s open plains, teak woodlands and pumped waterholes. Depending on conditions, we will mix game drives with walking, always at a pace that keeps your safety and comfort first. We focus on elephants, lions, wild dogs and the smaller stories that make this landscape unique.
The middle of the day is for rest, image review and editing in camp. I share my own workflow in Lightroom and Photoshop, and there is time for individual questions and quiet work on your images.
River magic on the Chobe
After Hwange we fly back to Victoria Falls and drive onward to the Chobe. For three nights we stay on the Pangolin Voyager houseboat, moored on the Namibian side of the river, followed by two nights at Pangolin Chobe Hotel.
From the houseboat we photograph from custom‑built Pangolin photo boats, working at water level with elephants crossing the channel, hippos, crocodiles and a rich variety of birdlife. The low angle, soft water reflections and long golden evenings allow for very creative work, including slow shutter, silhouettes and high‑key or low‑key scenes.
At Pangolin Chobe Hotel we continue with a mix of river sessions and game drives into Chobe National Park. Evenings back at the hotel are perfect for relaxed editing sessions, shared image review and good conversations about photography and the stories behind the pictures.

This trip is designed for nature‑loving photographers who want time, space and expert guidance to create powerful images – and to simply enjoy being in the wild.
Photography on this safari
This trip is designed for photographers of all levels. On the Chobe River, we focus on light, reflections, movement and creative techniques. Depending on conditions, we work on over‑ and under‑exposing, shooting high key and low key, panning, managing highlights on the water and capturing fast‑moving subjects.
In Hwange, however, we shift to a more classic wildlife approach. We work with predators, elephants and open spaces. Dry season conditions often fill the air with dust, which turns into warm, glowing layers when the sun is low. We stay with scenes longer, waiting for light, mood and behaviour to come together.
Between activities I teach Lightroom and Photoshop in a simple, natural way. I share my workflow from the first selection to the final image and help you find your own visual voice. My goal is to help you create photographs that feel personal and true to the moment, whether you are just starting or refining an established style.
Itinerary
Why photographers choose this itinerary
Camps
Insika Lodge – A gentle landing at Victoria Falls
We start our safari at Insika Lodge, a beautiful boutique hotel tucked into woodland close to Victoria Falls. Modern African design, spacious rooms and peaceful gardens make this the ideal place to rest after your journey. From Insika it is easy to visit the Falls, join a sunset cruise or explore the town. Between activities you can relax by the pool, enjoy the spa or simply sit on the deck. Let your body and mind arrive in Africa.
Highlights:
– Modern boutique lodge with spa, pool and spacious rooms.
– Close to Victoria Falls, Zambezi River and all town excursions.
– Perfect place to reset and prepare for the days in Hwange and on the Chobe.
Inzila Camp – Wild Hwange on foot
In Hwange we stay at Inzila, a simple but comfortable mobile camp set in unfenced wilderness. There are no barriers between you and the bush, only canvas and stars. Our host here is Adam Jones, one of Hwange’s most respected professional guides and a passionate photographer himself. With Adam we explore by vehicle and on foot. We follow tracks, visit quiet pans and often have sightings all to ourselves. Evenings are spent around the fire with good food and stories from the day. The calls of lions and hyenas as our soundtrack.
Highlights:
– Guided by Adam Jones, professional guide and passionate photographer.
– Walking safaris and vehicle game drives in unfenced wilderness.
– Authentic mobile camp under canvas with no fences, just stars.
Pangolin Voyager Houseboat – Living on the Chobe
For the next part of the journey we move onto the Pangolin Voyager. It is a comfortable floating lodge moored on the Namibian side of the Chobe River. With just five cabins, it feels intimate and homely. It is like having your own moving camp on the water.
We are already on the river for first and last light. This means we can slip out on custom-built photo boats while the water is still calm. The sky is soft. Between cruises you can watch elephants and birds from the deck. You can download and back up images in comfort. Or simply sit and listen to the sounds of the river.
Highlights:
– Already on the water for first and last light photography.
– Five cabins only, we have the voyager all to ourselves.
– Watch elephants and hippos from your deck between photo sessions.
Pangolin Chobe Hotel – Above the river
Pangolin Chobe Hotel is situated on a plateau. It overlooks the Chobe River and Caprivi floodplains. With only 14 rooms, it feels intimate and personal. The design is built around a wildlife photography gallery. It feels more like a creative studio than a traditional lodge.
From here we head out on game drives into Chobe National Park. We also take boat cruises on the river. Returning to sundowners on the deck is a highlight. Image review sessions happen in the cool of the editing room. It is the perfect place to end the journey. Here you can refine your favourite images. Soak up a last dose of Chobe magic before heading home.
Highlights:
– Custom-built photo boats with 360-degree rotating seats and gimbals.
– Wildlife photography gallery and deck overlooking the Chobe floodplains.
– Game drives into Chobe National Park.

The quiet wellness of the wild
Spending 13 days on this photo safari has a gentle effect on your body and mind. It is a surprising and welcome change.
Many guests notice:
- A deep mental reset – Your days follow sunrise and sunset. You can forget about emails and notifications. Very soon your nervous system slows down to the rhythm of the bush.
- A soft digital detox – Wi‑Fi is limited and optional. The screen you look at most is the horizon. It is not your phone.
- Disconnect to truly reconnect – There are fewer distractions here. Therefore, conversations become deeper and laughter comes easier. Many guests reconnect with parts of themselves they had forgotten.
- Better, wilder sleep – Fresh air and natural light help you rest. The sounds of the night also lead to the best sleep people have had in years.
- Nature’s own stress relief – Watch elephants at the water. Listen to birds at dawn. Sitting quietly by the river calms the body. This feeling is hard to find at home.
- Sun on your skin and dust on your shoes – Gentle walking and natural light work quietly in the background. Vitamin D helps you feel better. Consequently, you leave feeling grounded and energised.
Photography may be the reason you decide to book. In the end, the real treasure is how you feel when you go home. Clearer, calmer and still carrying a little of the Chobe and Hwange magic inside you.
